“A Penny Saved…”

She’s an amazingly life-sized sculpture carved entirely out of wood. A two hundred and ten pound butternut log, to be exact.

Sculptor Fred Cogelow, of Willmar, Minnesota, took six months to create her. Completed, she weighs in at 62.5 pounds after being hollowed out to prevent cracking.

She currently stands in the subway beneath the Marriott at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, in a gallery with equally impressive works of art.

She can be yours for a sum of $157,000 (dollars), but I have a selfish request.

PLEASE don’t buy her! It would break my heart 💔, and the hearts of those that welcome the pause, she gives us from our worries.

If she has to be bought, let Mayo Clinic be the one 🙏🏻🙏🏻

Fashion Saved My Life when I was kidnapped in Chicago (at age 17)

My Chicago Tribune headlines December 13, 1972

Fashion quite literally saved my life (but ended my abductor’s), some 44 years ago today. My ultra-suede maxi coat stiffened in the extreme cold, concealing the fact that I was wearing a (plastic) watch with a “bubble” (thick) crystal, allowing me to free my left wrist (after being handcuffed). The wooden platform sandals I was wearing (with socks) in the middle of winter (what?!) made every kick count.

I suffered no physical harm save for the blows to my head (which knocked me out & allowed him to drag me into the car through the passenger window).

Freeing my one hand (early on) made ALL the difference and allowed me moments of clarity through my (absolute) terror.

I’m thankful for a LOT of things that worked out in my favor those 44 years ago today, but mostly, I thank God for making certain I wore that watch, that coat & that particular pair of shoes 🙏🏻🙏🏻 I’ll type up the whole story some day, but until then, this link has the most accurate accounting:

That’s me, showing reporters the wrist burns from freeing myself of the handcuffs. I was pretty shocked to google my name & find these for sale?!!

this is the SCARF that never ends…😎

:::singing:::: 🎵This is the SCARF that never ends… yes it goes ON & ON my friends! Someone just STARTED knitting it not knowing what it WAS… & they’ll continue knitting it FOREVER (just because…😎)🎶

Already enormous, I’ve got this skein to finish and yet another to go!

This was a kit offered by String Yarns of NYC called “Missoni”. The fiber consists of twelve 50 gram balls of Indulgence 6 ply with silk, with Filatura DiCrosa’s Fine Superwash Zaria for the white stripes.

It makes for a super soft and extremely warm winter scarf IF “it ever ends”. 😎

Sourdough pancakes? Yes, please 🥞🥓

I’m the kind of cook that prefers to make everything from scratch. It tastes better and is better for you (less preservatives).

Well, Dorothy’s™ Sawtooth Sourdough pancake OR Waffle batter changed all that. I can’t believe how delicious something from a mix can taste! I first discovered Dorothy’s at the (seasonal) fruit stand where I bought my fresh peaches 🍑 .

1 cup mix + egg + water + oil = HEAVEN 🤗
